WITH BEAST
MISSTRESS BARBARA

Aware of the challenges of re-creating the energy of his live performances, DJ Champion chose to incorporate elements of rock to his latest offering, Resistance, thus allowing him to deliver the same energy he captures on the live stage. Strongly inspired by turn of the century worksongs, the DJ sat down for a moment and for the first time, wrote most of the lyrics on the record. To help relay his prose, DJ Champion recruited Pilou, a young prodigy from the Montreal music scene who makes his debut appearance singing with fire and fierceness alongside DJ Champion’s signature electric guitar and electronic drum wizardry.

A strong album in its sonority with tracks that shines through the uplifting construction of the composition, Resistance, is the artist’s inner struggle to avoid venturing down the same path creatively. “I could have gone back to where I am from”, says Champion, “I could have made obscure electro, even more experimental, but for me there was no challenge in doing so!” Musical exploration has always been more important then the image projected for DJ Champion and this is made clear with Resistance’s eleven burning dance tracks that are just as contagious as any of his previous work.

Be sure not to miss DJ Champion & His G-Strings electrify the crowd March 11th at The Guvernment!

Wristbands to gain entry into this event are available for purchase at www.canadianmusicfest.com. Wristbands are limited subject to capacity.

REMG Entertainment & Canadian Music Fest 2010 are proud to present RJD2 live in concert at The Mod Club Theatre on Thursday, March 11.

RJD2 the Philadelphia based DJ and multi-instrumentalist began his career in 1993 with a pair of turntables bought from a friend and catapulted to notoriety, fame, and serious hip-hop credibility with 2002’s Dead Ringer LP released on El-P’s record label Definitive Jux.

Dead Ringer feasted on styles both old and new, and in the process created a sound that emerged as one of the most interesting and exciting new voices in instrumental music. RJ’s live show following this release often included a one-man, four-turntable reconstruction of his own work, baffling any crowd fortunate enough to witness it.

RJ collaborates with rapper Blueprint under the name Soul Position, and the duo have released the Unlimited EP, 8 Million Stories and Things Go Better with RJ and Al. His solo albums include Since We Last Spoke, released on Definitive Jux in 2004 and The Third Hand, released on XL Recordings in 2007. In 2009, RJD2 announced details of his forthcoming album The Colossus to be released on his own label RJ’S Electrical Connections.

He still continues to produce tracks, and has worked with a who’s who of underground hip hop, such as Copywrite, Cunninlynguists, Cage, MF DOOM, Diverse and Aceyalone. Magnificent City the collaborative record with Aceyalone, released in 2006, features the song “A Beautiful Mine”, of which, the instrumental version was optioned as the theme music to AMC’s hit drama series Mad Men. 2006 also saw him contribute a cover of “Airbag” by Radiohead for the album Exit Music.

Don’t miss RJD2 live at the Mod Club on Thursday, March 11, during Canadian Music Fest 2010. Wristbands to gain entry into this event are available for purchase at www.canadianmusicfest.com. Wristbands are limited subject to capacity.

“Yeah, I’ve seen the video of the dude onstage. It’s a crazy scene.” Vibe Magazine

More than a decade after his introduction, Tech N9ne, a self-proclaimed weirdo, has paid his dues. Now 10 albums deep, Tech has built a reputation on amazing live performances and collaborated with some of the most credible artists in the game — working alongside the likes of the Tupac, Ice Cube, Eminem, Xzibit, KRS-One and RZA.

Crazy hair with a painted face, ready for war, Tech offers an intense, insane and energetic live show — bringing you a mix of gunshot metaphors, staccato-measured lyrics and tight, spot-on timing.

His reputation as an electrifying live performer culminated with Tech being invited to join the Rock The Bells Tour in 2009, where he shared the main stage with hip-hop’s biggest stars, including the likes of Nas, Ice Cube and Busta Rhymes.

Don’t miss Tech N9ne’s first headline show in Toronto during Canadian Music Fest 2010. Wristbands to gain entry into this event are available for purchase at www.canadianmusicfest.com. Wristbands are limited subject to capacity.

Friday, March 12, 2010 at The Sound Academy – Tickets On Sale Thursday February 11 @ 10AM

2/8/2010

Live Nation announces illScarlett will perform Friday, March 12 at The Sound Academy as part of Canadian Music Fest 2010. Doors will open at 7pm with performances starting at 8pm. Tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.

With more than 2 million MySpace plays and over 60,000 illScarlett records sold to date illScarlett have set the stage for a much anticipated sophomore release. 1UP!

From the beginning, illScarlett’s hardcore DIY ethic worked as an effective tool to get the band noticed from the get go. Using old school methods (tirelessly touring their asses off) and new technologies (myspace, youtube, facebook etc.) to initiate the groundswell illScarlett manufactured a solid fan base. The story goes that a few years ago, they pulled into the Van’s Warped Tour parking lot, fired up a generator and started playing for the people lined up for the concert with the hopes of selling some of the bands independent, self financed EP’s . This got the attention of Warped founder Kevin Lymon, who invited them to play his nightly post-show party. They killed it, have been guests of the warped tour ever since and we’d like to say ‘the rest is history’.

When singer Alex Norman is asked the meaning of the album’s title 1UP!, his response is very straightforward, “1UP! takes every lesson we’ve learned as a band, from our days pounding the pavement promoting our first shows to working with world class producers, and channels that amassed knowledge into an album that is better than anything we have ever done!”

With the release of 1UP! The band has set out on a North American tour hitting The Sound Academy on March 12th, don’t miss it!

Thursday, March 11, 2010 – 4:00PM – Fairmont Royal York Hotel

1/19/2010

A musician, artist and iconic rock figure, Slash is recognized as an indelible force in the world of music today. Time Magazine recently chose him as one of the best electric guitarists of all time, along with Hendrix himself. To us, he is the man who defined the sound of Guns N’ Roses and the last great guitar god. With album sales nearing the 100 million mark, seven Grammy nominations, and countless music projects, Slash will be sharing memories and insights on life, love and playing loud during a very special in-depth celebrity interview at Canadian Music Week on Thursday, March 11, 2010.

Since bursting onto the scene in 1985 with Guns N’ Roses, Slash has become one of the most admired virtuoso axmen of the century, providing some of rock’s greatest anthems. From the unforgettable licks of GN’R classics “Welcome to the Jungle”, “You Could Be Mine”, and “Sweet Child O’ Mine” to Michael Jackson’s “Black or White”, to his latest offerings with Velvet Revolver, his trademark sound is unmistakable.

A principle and founding member of Guns N’ Roses, Slash was instrumental in fueling the band’s debut album Appetite For Destruction to critical acclaim, becoming the second highest selling debut of all time and remaining as one of rock’s most revered albums. During his time with GN’R, the band released five studio albums, two EPs, one live album, and three music video DVDs.

After departing the group in 1995, Slash formed his own band Slash’s Snakepit and released two albums. In 2003 he formed Velvet Revolver with ex-GN’R members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Their debut release Contraband reached multi-platinum success and earned the band a 2005 Grammy Award for “Best Hard Rock Performance” for the track “Slither”.

Throughout his career, Slash has performed and recorded with some of the most distinguished names in music including Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, James Brown, and Ray Charles. As a musical director at the 2005 Grammy Awards telecast, Slash led Stevie Wonder, Bono, Brian Wilson, and Steven Tyler from Aerosmith through a stirring rendition of The Beatles’ classic “Across The Universe”.

At the invitation of several film producers and directors, Slash began scoring music for feature films as well as writing and recording songs for soundtracks. His compositions can be heard throughout the award-winning biopic Ray, as well as box-office blockbusters The Hulk, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Big Daddy, Jackie Brown and Interview With The Vampire. In 2003, he picked up a Grammy nomination for his impassioned interpretation of the Godfather theme, a contribution to the soundtrack for The Kid Stays in the Picture, a documentary about celebrated film producer and his long-time friend, Robert Evans.

In April 2010, Slash will be releasing his debut self-titled solo album through Universal Music. Featuring collaborative performances with some of music’s legendary greats and leading contemporaries, the album is certain to become an essential release on many a rock fan’s lists.

To see Slash in this rare opportunity, visit the Canadian Music Week website – www.cmw.net – to register for your Canadian Music Week delegate pass, or purchase a limited ticket to this individual event.

Canadian Music Week is Canada’s leading annual entertainment event dedicated to the expression and growth of the country’s music, media and entertainment industries. Combining five information-intensive conferences; a trade exposition; a film festival; four awards shows and the nation’s largest New Music Festival – Canadian Music Fest – CMW spans a five-day period from March 10 to March 14, 2010 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel and various downtown Toronto venues, attracting participants from across the globe.
