Canadian Music Fest 2010 and The Great Escape are proud to present Polaris Prize Winner Fucked Up live in concert at the El Mocambo on opening night, Wednesday, March 10. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster, Rotate This, Soundscapes, ticketmaster.ca and canadianmusicfest.com for $15 (plus taxes and service charges). Doors open at 8:30 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m.

Toronto-based Fucked Up formed in 2002, high-school friends influenced by first and second-wave hardcore bands like Minor Threat and NOFX. It was instantly apparent that they were not carbon-copy punks.

Their most recent album, The Chemistry Of Common Life released in 2008, earned the band 2009’s Polaris Prize Award, beating out fellow Canadian heavyweights like Metric, Great Lake Swimmers and K’NAAN. The album synthesizes diverse impulses into an expansive epic about the mysteries of birth, death, and the origins of life (and re-living). Merging elements of hardcore songwriting with up to 70 tracks of guitars, organs, winds and vocals, the music remains iconoclastic and startling.

Known by bizarre aliases, Fucked Up employ creative methods of spreading information and misinformation, spurning MySpace and a band website in favour of Wikipedia and an oblique blog. Basic facts are constantly in flux. Some things nonetheless became clear during the course of the bands early existence. Though the band remains punk at heart, they have created a great, weird, heavy genre of music that stubbornly sticks in your brain and your heart.

Canadian Music Fest 2010 is proud to present Comeback Kid, Dead & Divine and Periphery at the El Mocambo on Saturday, March 13 as part of the Distort Entertainment Showcase, sponsored by Jagermeister Canada.

In 2002, what started as a side project has turned into what AMP magazine calls “a wildly successful scene institution.” Two critically acclaimed albums later and after tirelessly touring in the UK, Europe, Canada, USA, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Iceland with bands such as Rise Against, Bad Religion and Dropkick Murphys, Comeback Kid have become one of the biggest names in hardcore today.

Burlington’s Dead and Divine recently released their second full-length album – The Machines We Are – on Distort, Inc. Honing an intense sound that is laden with poignant melodies and introspective lyrics, the Burlington quartet have been described as “the thinking man’s metal band”.

Washington D.C.’s Periphery took the metal community by storm, releasing track after track of groundbreaking progressive metal. On April 20, 2010 Periphery will debut a self-titled full-length on Sumerian Records, following North American tour dates with Veil of Maya and Kittie.
