Max Burgundy

American music has been in a post-punk state for years – Max Burgundy is ready to lead the nostalgia parade to the starting line of post-hip hop America. Hailing from the Bronx, the genre’s birthplace – but currently residing in Brooklyn, home to the new arts movement in NYC – who better to do so than someone who has been down since its inception? Raised by a lone wolf of a single mother, petty street violence, John Singleton movies and the only genre he’s ever known, Max Burgundy has never stopped paying attention to himself and his surroundings, and it shows.
With a sound described by some as equal parts Slug, MURS and Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Max Burgundy has a stage presence that is neither subtle nor ordinary. Max brings the emotion and anxiety of a tortured adolescence and early adulthood to his music and performance art. The result is an analysis of what it’s like to be part of the last generation that will remember life before facebook, cell phones, the internet and Dawson’s Creek.
A true Lost Boy at heart, Max’s rebel cry “Oreos for Breakfast” is a play on his self determination. He makes his own choices and encourages others to do the same. It’s also a celebration of his biracial roots – and a celebration of the women who want to celebrate him the morning after.
